Remote Medical Training
Along with meeting standard accrediting requirements, as in the CAPCE, national registry of EMT’s or ECSI, we incorporate the challenges of remote and wilderness medicine for students with an urban, remote, wilderness, tactical or industrial background in medicine. Our goal is to bring new and relevant medical information, equipment and skills to allow experienced providers to learn in a safe learning environment.
The Remote Medicine for the Advanced Provider™ (RMAP) course trains Advanced Life Support (ALS) providers such as nurses, paramedics, physicians, and physician assistants on sophisticated, life-saving techniques developed for use in challenging and remote environments. This course is 6 days of in-person training and offers up to 56 hours of CAPCE-approved continuing education. Please refer to your state agency for complete recertification requirements. The RMAP includes the widest range of advanced medical skills available to RMT students. This course educates participants on immobilization and carrying techniques, litter packaging, cold and heat emergencies, joint reductions, fracture management, spinal injury assessment, management of eye injuries and dental emergencies, expedition health and hygiene, psychological emergencies, tropical medicine, altitude illness, envenomation, evacuations, rescue considerations, mass casualty incidents, triage situations, how to utilize medical kits, manage remote site clinics, and more.
This course combines 20-30 hours of online coursework with five days of in-person training to provide intermediate medical skills to individuals working or playing in remote environments. The Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification is considered the standard for professionals working as guides, outdoor educators, as well as recreational expedition medical personnel in remote areas. Through our hands-on and scenario-based approach, this course offers the skills and confidence needed to provide medical care when an evacuation is hours or days away. The WFR covers legal considerations, patient assessment, lifting and moving patients, wilderness CPR, altitude, immersion, submersion, lightning, and altered mental states. The course curriculum also educates students on how to successfully manage shock, head injuries, wounds, infection, musculoskeletal and spinal injuries, respiratory and cardiac emergencies, abdominal pain, metabolic and allergic reactions, cold and heat emergencies, and more.
