The Vocational Nursing Certificate Program at Mission Valley College offers an educational path to becoming a critical member of the health care team.

Program Structure

Our certificate program spans three semesters, involving 10 to 12 hours of classroom theory weekly. Students spend approximately 16 hours per week gaining hands-on clinical experience, and three hours in clinical simulations.

Achievement & Progress

A minimum score of 75% must be achieved in all core courses and a grade of C or better in all other courses. Upon successful completion of the program, students become eligible to apply for the national licensing examination (NCLEX-PN).

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this program, students will be able to:

  • Communicate appropriately using verbal, written, and technological methods within the nursing profession
  • Critically analyze relevant information and apply principles of evidence-based practice using the nursing process
  • Demonstrate personal and professional growth
  • Complete all requirements for eligibility to apply for the Psychiatric Technician licensure and pass the national examination
