Liberty’s online Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) in English Education 6-12 is a teaching license-track that gives students the specialized knowledge they need to teach English and literature topics at the middle and high school levels. The content of this degree is designed to meet state licensure requirements for teaching middle grades and high school English in Virginia, allowing students to apply for reciprocity in other states. This program also meets standards set by the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). Students in the B.Ed. in English Education 6-12 will build on a foundation of teaching and education knowledge with specialized course content that prepares them to teach on all level-appropriate topics in writing and literature. Through this program, students will study a wide body of literature and learn writing skills while they gain the teaching skills to pass this knowledge on to students. This program also includes hands-on experience in a classroom in students’ communities through a combined 240 hours of practicum and student teaching. With these skills, students will be prepared to pursue roles as licensed middle or high school English teachers, private school English teachers, writing and literature curriculum coordinators, and literacy program directors.
