Program Overview:
The Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technician program aims to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills for entry-level positions in the medical laboratory industry. Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLT) play a crucial role in analyzing blood, body fluids, and other specimens to aid physicians in disease detection, diagnosis, and treatment. This program covers academic courses in hematology, microbiology, clinical chemistry, urinalysis, immunology, and blood bank. Students develop a strong knowledge base and hands-on skills in specimen preparation and routine diagnostic tests across laboratory departments. The program includes a clinical rotation in an affiliated hospital laboratory, providing real-world experience. Graduates are prepared for roles such as Medical Laboratory Technician, Laboratory Technician, and Laboratory Assistant.
Credential Awarded:
Successful graduates receive an occupational Specialized Associate Degree.
Program Advisory Committee:
To ensure the program's relevance and alignment with industry standards, Laurel holds annual Program Advisory Committee (PAC) meetings with individuals familiar with occupational requirements. Changes to the program are made in consultation with relevant authorities.

To ensure we always meet those standards, Laurel is licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, State Board of License Schools. Laurel is permitted to offer programs through the West Virginia Council for Community and Technical College Education; Laurel Technical Institute is Registered with the Ohio State Board of Career Colleges and Schools (No. 08-07-1870T (Hermitage) No. 14-07-2048T (Meadville)). Laurel is also approved to participate in NC-Sara through the PA Department of Education.
