At the University of Vermont Health Network - Elizabethtown Community Hospital (ECH), we understand that paramedics play a critical role in the health of our community. ECH is a leader in paramedic education in northern New York and offers a Paramedic Education Program to train the next workforce of career and volunteer paramedics. The ECH Paramedic Education Program is an intensive training program which blends an on-line learning environment, classroom sessions, lab sessions and clinical experience to create the next generation of paramedics that are both competent and ready for entry-level paramedic roles. You will spend a minimum of 200 hours training in the hospitals, and 200 hours training with EMS agencies as you meet the requirements and prepare for a Capstone Field Internship. This internship will put you in the role as a paramedic team leader for a minimum of 120 hours and is a great opportunity to showcase your knowledge and skills. Hands-on clinical training is offered throughout many counties in Northern New York and Vermont, utilizing our regional health care facilities and others. We work closely with EMS agencies across Northern New York and Vermont, to allow the most comprehensive clinical experience for our students. When possible, the program seeks out opportunities for our students to learn in new ways. Our program includes a cadaver anatomy and procedures lab for paramedic students and EMS providers around the region. This lab allows our students the unique opportunity to learn in a way you cannot from books or manikins.
