Respiratory therapists play a pivotal role in pulmonary and respiratory health, providing patients experiencing breathing problems with care that saves and improves lives. Patients in their care may suffer from a diverse array of health conditions, from the everyday to the extraordinary, like asthma, emphysema, pneumonia, bronchitis, COVID-19, lung cancer, or cystic fibrosis. Whatever the underlying cause, the respiratory therapists’ treatment is no less vital to the patient’s wellbeing and quality of life.
The Respiratory Therapy, AAS program is offered through a partnership with Prince George’s Community College (PGCC). This is a competitive admissions program. First consideration will be given to residents of CSM's service area (Calvert, Charles, St. Mary's counties).
Medical administrative assistant duties may include greeting patients, scheduling appointments, filing insurance claims, and answering incoming calls. Day-to-day office functions are part of a medical administrative assistants’ tasks. Students completing this program are eligible to take the NHA Certified Medical Administrative Assistant exam. Employment opportunities can include: hospitals, urgent care settings, and private physician offices.
The Phlebotomy Technician works in a healthcare setting such as a hospital, clinic, or patient service center in an outpatient laboratory and draws blood from patients or donors for analysis or other medical purposes. With further training, a technician can become a Medical Laboratory Technician or Technologist which prepares specimens, operates analyzers, and performs manual tests.
Dental assistants perform different types of patient care, office duties, and laboratory duties. On a typical day, a dental assistant who delivers patient care will: make patients as comfortable as possible in the dental chair, prepare them for treatment, and obtain dental records; hand instruments and materials to dentists; sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment, prepare tray setups for dental procedures, and instruct patients on postoperative and general oral health care; and much more. With further education, students can become Registered Dental Hygienists who clean teeth and examine oral areas.
Clinical Medical Assistants are a vital part of clinical patient care. They perform tasks including preparing patients for the doctor, obtaining vital signs, collecting specimens (phlebotomy for example), performing EKGs, and assisting during exams and procedures to name a few.
The field of cybersecurity focuses on the protection of computers, networks, software, and data from unauthorized access, modification, and destruction. Continued adoption of new technologies, Software as a Service (SAAS), and migration to cloud environments in the face of evolving threats are accelerating demand for practitioners in this already growing field.
Take advantage of CSM's professional development training for veterinary assistants in less than one year. The Veterinary Assistant program gets students into the field quickly. This certificate will afford students better than a foot in the door opportunities at vet clinics, animal sanctuaries, etc.
Every industry using computing systems is awash in data. A scientific approach to analyzing data allows stakeholders to monitor processes and engage in informed decision making.
CSM’s Data Science program is organized around core coursework teaching students to manage, explore, model, and visualize data for descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive analysis. This program will provide students with the underlying mathematical and computational foundations, hands-on experience with industry standard statistical and programming tools, as well as exploration of current ethical issues in the field of data science.
This Data Science, AS program is designed for transfer to four-year institutions requiring mathematical, computer science, information technology and data science preparation.
Administrative Assistants provide support by conducting research, preparing statistical reports, handling information requests, and performing clerical functions such as preparing correspondence, receiving visitors, arranging conference calls, and scheduling meetings. Students may also train and supervise lower-level clerical staff.
A Certified Nursing Assistant or Certified Geriatric Nursing Assistant provides basic patient care under the direction of the nursing staff. A Nursing Assistant performs duties for patients in a healthcare setting, such as feeding, dressing, grooming, moving, and changing linens.
