This program teaches students to become EKG/Cardiovascular technicians who can work in a variety of healthcare facilities including hospitals, nursing homes, clinics and physicians’ offices.  Students will be taught how to perform a 12-lead EKG, properly maintain diagnostic equipment, recognize normal and abnormal sinus rhythms and monitor patients for cardiovascular disorders.  An overview of anantomy and physiology, with emphasis on cardiac and vascular systems is taught along with medical terminology, basic patient care techniques, medical instrumentation, cardiac monitoring and testing, and cardiac wellness and rehabilitation.  A clinical experience is offered along with classroom simulation of various technical procedures.

Hybrid Certified Nursing Assistant Classes

Atlantic Technical College - Arthur Ashe Jr. Campus has an excellent Certified Nursing Assistant program with a dedicated and thorough instructor. ATC is based out of Fort Lauderdale, perfect for those located in the greater Miami metro area. The program offered is a Patient Care Assistant program rather than just CNA. This allows students to be cross-trained nursing assistants. As such, the program is 290 hours long over 10 weeks.

This multi-skilled health professional is trained in clerical and medical office procedures, phlebotomy, EKG, X-Ray, basic patient care techniques and laboratory procedures. The Patient Care Technician comes in direct contact with the patient in the performance of his/her assigned duties. Students also receive supplementary training in 12-lead EKG, basic phlebotomy techniques and perform restorative skills. Upon successful completion of Nursing Assistant Skills component, the student will be eligible to sit for the National Healthcare Association certification exam for Certified Patient Care Technician Assistant (CPCT/A) exam. This is an excellent course for students who have no previous medical experience and who wish to enter the healthcare field.

The Practical Nursing program prepares a person to participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care in hospitals and extended care facilities. Students are introduced to the clinical area early in the program. Theory and clinical procedures are integrated to reinforce learning.

A certificate is issued at the successful completion of the program in accordance with State guidelines.  Graduates are entitled to take the NCLEX-PN licensure examination.  The Florida State Board of Nursing will issue a license to those who pass the examination.
