Alaska Career College students learn Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology as they directly pertain to phlebotomy. The program covers all aspects of blood sample collection. Students learn a minimum of forty of the most commonly ordered laboratory tests, the reason the tests exist, how to handle abnormal test results, special procedures such as pediatric collections, arterial blood gases, and how to receive and transport specimens properly.

The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) offers a Medical Billing and Coding certification program. This program teaches students the skills and knowledge needed to work in the healthcare industry, specifically in the field of medical billing and coding. Medical billing and coding involves translating medical diagnoses and procedures into codes that can be used for billing and insurance claims purposes. The UAA program provides comprehensive training in areas such as medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, healthcare reimbursement systems, and coding guidelines. Students will also learn how to use coding software and electronic health records systems. Upon completion of the program, students will be prepared to take the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) exam and pursue a career in medical billing and coding.

The Certificate in Pharmacy Technician program provides you with the knowledge and technical skills needed for an entry-level position in pharmacy technology. Through classroom instruction and hands-on labs, you'll learn essential tasks such as calculating drug dosages, identifying sterile and nonsterile products, preparing dosage forms, and utilizing computer technology to enhance your employability.

Pharmacy Technician Certifications

To work as a Pharmacy Technician, you must pass a national exam administered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board, accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). 

Pharmacy Technician Externship Requirement

As part of the Certificate in Pharmacy Technician training program, you'll be required to complete a 180-hour internship in a sponsored pharmacy facility under the supervision of a site supervisor. 

Prior to starting your internship, you must fulfill the program requirements, including completing 63 credit hours in the Pharmacy Technician program and demonstrating program competencies to the lead instructor.

You'll also need to be licensed as a Pharmacy Assistant by the Washington Department of Health, Board of Pharmacy, Pharmacy Quality Assurance Commission.
